Just wanting to ask, in regards to the PLM 231 and DRG BR 01 maximum speed, apparently the PLM 231 has a maximum speed of 130 km/h and the DRG Br 01 has a maximum speed of 120 km/h or 130 km/h, my question is was the PLM 231 on par or faster than the DRG BR 01?

Hi
In the late 30s, the DRG was making effort to increase speed (Henschel-Wegmann, .. and the BR 06 was DRG's swan's song)
The PLM 231 was limited to 120 km/h, created in 1911 (so much older than the DRG's BR 01 (1926) also capable of 120 km/h

I don't think the 231 were very rapid BUT, in the early days of the SNCF (1937) some were modernized to reach a much better coal efficiency and reached up to 3000 hp and up to 130 km/h around 1933.

In those days the priority was to make better use of the little coal we had in France and not so much the speed.
The best steam engine we had in France was the 232U1 capable of 2942 kW/h (3945 hp continuous), 140 km/h, that was in 1949 but it was never produced in quantity, used until 1961 and then forgotten.

Another strange French loco was the 242 A1 modified from a 241 Etat in 1946 with a maximum power of 3 680 kW (4933 hp) and a coal stocker. Some steam enthusiasts were improving the machine more and more while electrification was decided in 1948 and reaching many main roads in the 1950s and 1960s
Cheers
Jean

The "PLM 231" is a family of locos ranging from 1000 HP to 3000 HP and at least some were permitted to run at 130 km/h.
The BR 01 is one loco type with varying size of running wheels: small wheelers were permitted for 120 km/h, large wheelers for 130 km/h.

I don't know how fast they really went when the train was delayed.
IIRC I read a report of a train ride on a BR 03 - the train was delayed and on straight tracks the needle was very close to 140 km/h.

And BR 01 does not include BR 01.10 - the latter were a bit faster.
Regards
Tom
