I have looked at the excellent http://www.modellbahnboerse.org/ website but wondered if there was anything similar devoted to Marklin z gauge catalogue numbers and/or details of the different types of rolling stock. I have searched the net, but can not seem to find anything. Does anybody know of such a source?

Hello, hope you are well.

I may not know about a site similar to the one you pointed out.

There is a somewhat newer product archive on the Marklin website. Here is a link, just select z scale from the drop down menus:

https://www.maerklin.de/...service/product-database

This may not have z scale information going very far back. It seems newer information is available and perhaps going forward the information will build.

Here is a model train collector WIKI which might help. From home page select Model Train Directory from the menu, than select the category of information you might be looking for. This site welcomes contributors, but may be easier to navigate with experience. There are photos and information concerning z scale. Don’t forget, z scale has been around for 50 years and this site only has a fraction of information you might need. Signing up and contributing could further improve this site. YouTube videos help understand this site. Look on their page.

https://www.modelrailroadcollector.wiki/en-us/

I believe most may likely agree, the most complete information about Marklin z scale may be found in a publication by Modellplan - Marklin spur z.

Here is their link:

https://modellplan.de/os...r-Z-Maerklin-Spur-Z.html

Prices for the publications look great, but depending where you are, it may take a while to get your order. Online file transfers are possible. In the past, you had to order the printed book before you could get online update downloads. Recently the author for the printed book died, but other members of the staff say they will continue to produce the publications. The book now has over 800 pages of Z scale information with descriptions and photos. Only drawback, it is all in German. I have both the printed book and have purchased the update downloads, and they have been great.

Hope this helps you get started.

Take good care.

Dwight

Many thanks for those links Dwight. I had seen the Marklin site, but as you say, it seems to be just more recent stuff. I will have a look at the others - when I get plenty of spare time! :-)

Marklin old complete programs catalogue included Z gauges from 1972 to 1983 and 1991 to 1999. Please note from 1984 to 1990 are HO scale catalogues only.

Hello, hope all is well.

If you think you might be interested in collecting Marklin Special, Advertising or Industrial items or sets you can find photos and information about production quantities at this website.

https://www.z-freunde-in...201689%20Abb%20Vers3.pdf

If you are looking at a single unlabeled item for example, check a Special Model (Sondermodelle ab) to see if there is an image for it. If you find it, it will have a number which you can look up on the Special Model Liste. If your item is not a Special Model, but is an Advertising Model (Werbemodelle) follow the same process to locate an image first, get the number, then look it up on the Advertising Model Liste. You can also use this procedure for Industrial models too.

This is not the easiest procedure, but it does help you locate an unknown item. Notice there are multiple Special Model documents shown, you may have to open a few to locate your items. Just take your time.

I was recently surprised when an item I purchased a long time ago, actually turned out to be an industrial model, which had only 40 produced. I think I paid less than $10 for this one because I guess no one wanted it without a box. Keep in mind, Industrial models might not come in a labeled box.

Maybe you have a treasure in your collection too.

Take good care.

Dwight
