The 50 Years of Z Gauge book arrived today.
Worth it for the pictures and although my grasp of German is slight, manage to make sense of most of it. Really a pity that it isn’t dual language though.
I have two fluent German speakers in the family (one is a translator) and when I see them later this summer they can fill in any blanks for me.
Once again, well worth it for the pictures.

I’ve been working my way through the book this afternoon past the section extolling the virtues of the redesigned chassis for diesel and electric outline double bogie locos to the section publishing track plans for layouts. The layouts are including lots of 8510 145mm radius curves and as I’ve found out some of these redesigned chassis will not negotiate these curves.
My dealer wrote to Märklin earlier this year on this anomaly and received no reply from them.
‘Head in the sand’ behaviour by Märklin?
If the catalogue was publishing minimum radii for each loco that would be fine.
I much enjoy the free Trainini issues, the reviews are useful but perhaps they could try the reviewed locos over 145mm curves and give us the result and then we could make better informed choices over what to buy and what to avoid.
No criticism of Trainini as perhaps it has not occurred to them that there could be a problem whereas Märklin must be aware by now.

My copy of the book is about to leave Lokshop. Looking forward to getting it even if I can only understand a few German words.

Received a copy of the book a week ago and e-mailed an inquiry to Marklin, whether there are plans to translate the book into English, French and Dutch like they did with the 0296 layout book. Perhaps if Marklin receives multiple inquiries, it will spur them to consider translating this book; just a suggestion but perhaps worth a try.

Hi veloboldie...

I tried to get an English version printed - committed to order around 30 and Märklin initially said they could and then suddenly the English book was not going to happen ... i tried.

Post where I announced the book available (Feb 2022) and then edited to say not available (March 2022).

But please - send the emails asking for it. We can still make it happen.

Hi Frank,

Yes, hopefully, if enough of us, the Z scale enthusiasts in the US, write directly to Marklin and ask for the English version, their management will change their mind. Here is the link to the form (in English) to send the request: https://www.maerklin.de/...mer-service/contact-form

Received the response from Marklin representative, after I sent in the form:

Sehr geehrter Herr XXXX,

bisher wurde nur diese deutschsprachige Variante präsentiert. Wir geben Ihre Anregung aber gerne einmal an die zuständigen Stellen weiter.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen

which basically translates to that so far only the German version has been presented, however, they will be happy to pass my suggestion further to the responsible authorities.

Maybe, if they receive more inquiries, we will turn small pebbles into an avalanche and get an english version eventually published.

Does it work with a printed book - which is what we are discussing here ...

Yes, it works directly with print by pointing the camera at the txt, and also works from imported pics,,,,,
