Marklin days 2022 at Goppingen is now cancelled because of covid. From Marklin Facebook 29th July. English translate Dear Märklin friends, After a long break due to Corona, we had planned to hold an open day again this year. However, since the pandemic situation is currently worsening again and we view the development critically, we have decided with a heavy heart to cancel this event. Since we would expect many visitors in our closed production rooms and the date is right after the last summer holidays, we want to protect you and our employees from the unavoidable contact with any infected people. If you see an invitation to this event in our printed media (e.g. Märklin Magazin, brochures, LGB-Depesche etc.), please remember that this was already printed and distributed when we made this decision. We hope that we will be able to plan again without restrictions for the coming year. You can always find up-to-date information about the IMA with the Märklin Days or our participation in the trade fair at https://www.maerklin.de/.../customer-service/events

A sensible idea too. It is running rampant down here and everyone I know who has travelled overseas recently has come home sick. We are not travelling overseas (except maybe to NZ, just to annoy BigdaddyNZ ) until COVID is sorted out properly. |

?!??
They are still cancelling events NOW, after more than 2 years of silly measures that did not help one bit in the long term? Istn't it clear by now that a goal of 'zero-covid' is an illusion? That it is running rampant in China, Australia and NZ because of a lack of exposure the past years?
If they keep using the same standard before allowing any events they will likely never have any events again. If it is not cancelled for reasons of covid next year, for sure it will be cancelled because of monkeypox.
I have totally had it with this hypochrondic world. Go inject yourself with some more vaccines, we see how much that helped...

We are not allowed to discuss politics. That includes Corona politics.
Many events take place again in Germany. I think it was Märklin's idea to cancel the event, not a legal requirement. |

And I would categorise this as religion, rather than politics. Discussions about religion are not allowed, discussions about politics are not allowed. As of today, it looks as if the Oktoberfest will take place in Munich. Thousands of people sitting in tents without masks and drinking more beer than is good for their health. People walking through the Göppingen factory with masks would take a much lower risk. Märklin care for their aging customer base and cancel the event to prevent customers from even taking this small risk. There are cases when we can blame the government for doing stupid things. But this is a case of Märklin caring for their customers. |
