Hi all, I´d like to know if anyone of you can help me in this matter. I´ve bought a Brawa E95 lok, a two engines/ two motors Elok. It´s an analogic model and conversion shouldn´t be a problem since it has a NEM plug. There´s no room enough for a loksound decoder, so my options are decoders with the size of lokpilot (or Brawa), and Roco for Märklin. Up to this point there is no problem at all, but my doubts came when I saw that those decoders have a max. output of 1.1 amperes. Will those decoders with 1.1/1.2 amp. be suitable for two motors? I´ve got no information from the Brawa manual nor from the Brawa website. I suppose they can be, since Brawa sells a lokpilot clon, there´s only one NEM interface, and a small space for decoder. It´s possible that anyone of you has experinced such a conversion like this one, or has info about power needs of this model. Advise is wellcome.

Hi all, As I can see, no one can help me. Well, hope next time I´ll have more luck. Brawa doesn´t answer me too. Best regards

If you have the Intellibox, then you can use DCC decoders too... Lenz 1835E (formerly LE134) can give you 1.8 A....
But it all depends on what the motors are - even 1.1 A might be enough if the motors do not draw too much current... The Märklin decoders can "give" 800 mA to the motor, and I'm almost sure that one motor in the Brawa consumes less than the M* 5-pole, since I assume they are smaller can DC motors...
I have a "6090" for 2 motors in one loco, but this platine is big and would probably not fit at all in the Brawa where I understand the space is very limited...
I'd take the chance with a LokPilot, and be aware of the fact that I could lose it in case it goes wrong... Better than seeking more expensive options... I do however think that Brawa should supply a list of suitable decoders in the manuals that come with the loco... |

Hi Juan Carlos, I don't have precisse information about how much current a Brawa motor draws, but as far as I know I think a decoder with 1.1 amp. should work fine for two of those motors. You can try with Roco's 10738 which is ready with NEM plug, just be sure it has overcurrent protection (I think it has this, but I'm not sure by the moment). You must notice that a motor draws more current when it starts and when it is under load. Since our motors are controlled by electronic devices, I assume they are programmed to feed the motor progressively to avoid those current peaks. So you should set your decoder to a relatively slow acceleration delay and a not too high top speed. These fit very well IMHO with the characteristics of an E95 Hope to have helped you, and keep us informed about the results Julio Castillo E-mail: jcastjr@telcom.esMadrid, Spain |

Hi Juhan, Julio, all, Thanks for your replay. As Juhan says, Brawa motors are smaller than Märklin´s. I´ve confirmed that Brawa´s decoder is made by ESU, like Lokpilot (actually it´s a Lokpilot). Brawa only offers two decoders with the same output for motor. So, I understand that things you both have told me, make a lot of sense. I´ve got a 10738 from Roco (Motorola protocol), and next weekend I´m going to try it. Yes, your suposition was right Julio, it has overcurrent protection and "load" regulation. Thanks a lot for your support and I´ll keep you up to date. Juan Carlos

Hi again, I´ve just recieved answer from Brawa, they say: "the best decoder is the ESU Lokpilot. this decoder is strong enough for the two motor E95 loco. the decoder shuld go to 0.8 to 1A" This is also suitable for all decoders we´ve talk about. I will tell you how it works.

Hi jceqido,
I know this is a bit of a late reply. About your class E95 from Brawa . Are you sure that it has two motors on the catalogue there is no mention of this niether on the Brawa site it only indicates a five pole diagonaly grooved motor. Also Brawa use ESU decoders so it will not be a problem for you to install one.
I have just orderd one of those loks for myself Art 0242. I think it is a beutyfull lok.

Hi all, Finally, I couldn´t do the conversion with the 10738from Roco (for AC). This decoder has a rubber button that you have to press during programming, and you must watch the loco´s lights to know how the process is going on. This loco takes current for lamps from a contact that is in the loco´s body, so it´s difficult to touch the button and see the blinking lamps at a time. Any case I didn´t manage to complete the secuence of programming with that decoder (I fond it even more difficult to use it in a "triebwagen" from Roco, so I won´t recommend this decoder at all). I finally did my conversion with a lokpilot, without any special effort, programming it with my Intellibox, with no need to touch anything inside the loco. Best and hot (what a summer we´ve got here my friends)regards
