Hi guys,
I'm trying a layout with a few meters of track and some turn outs.
One part will use C track and another M track. I have an MS2 too. The number of locomotives running at the same time may vary between 6 to 8, the decoders of my locomotives are Delta, c80, c81, c91, MFX and FX.
I will have some passenger cars that will have lights.
I'm going to use some Marklin K83 or maybe Viessmann 5211.
I also have 2 digital controllers and the respective power suplier of 2 digital sets.(29361)
Questions:
Can I use these digital controllers as a booster, isolating parts of the layout and keeping the MS2 in control? Even with the limitation of 2 to 3 Locomotives in these parts of the circuit?
Using the K83/5211, can I connect them to the isolated circuit(s) and the MS2 will still be able to control the turn outs and the locomotives?
Or will I always have to connect the k83/5211 to the circuit where the MS2 is connected?

Thanks in advance.

Hi!
Welcome to the forum.

As already answered on Fakebook: The Delta Control 6604 and Delta Control 66045 can be used as boosters, but recent starter set gadgets can not.
Regards
Tom

Yes, a transformer is needed.

I've lost count how many times I've posted this but a picture is worth a thousand words.

Substitute your MS2 plus power supply for the 6021 plus 6002 transformer.

Remember to isolate the track between the two powered sections. The common ground connection should be from the brown track output of the MS2's track box, NOT from the "ground" of the MS2's power supply. DO NOT connect anything to the MS2 power supply other than the MS2 track box.

Can it work with just using the MS2 and its power supply alone? (To make it more simple).

No, for two different reasons:

1: A normal MS2 power supply is designed to give just the right amount of power / current for the MS2 to work.

2: A normal MS2 power supply is DC, I don't remember if a MS2 will even work on AC;
but I'm 100% sure the 66045 needs to be supplied with AC - it simply doesn't work on DC.

Finally, the brown output wire of the Delta 66045 is common ground to the brown wire input from the trafo;
which works fine for the 66045; but if the same trafo is used for the MS2 and a small short between the output
grounds happens, you will have instant expensive smoke coming out of the MS2............ BigGrin

Per.

Cool

To Purellum. What I meant was using the MS2 (with its power supply) only and not any other transformer and controller.

... but it's fine, of course, to point out the dangers of doing it wrong. :-)

I added some clarification to my original post.

The original poster asked about whether he could use a spare MS2 he has as a booster. From there the thread went on to discuss how an additional booster could be used with a MS2.
