I’m interested in buying a Marklin 5524 (T 18) for my layout. I see these Loco’s listed as Digital, but none of the sellers one can give me a Digital address, nor a list of functions. Most of them can’t even test them, or are selling them for a friend.

My question is, were the Marklin 5524 T 18’s factory Digital or not?

It has been my limited experience that most four-digit Spur 1 locos are not Digital.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Stuart

Cool

Hello Stuart BigGrin

According to the eBook PDF, which I think I've sent you, the 5524 should be digital Cool

The 5524 is mentioned in this PDF, where it's said that it's digital with a Motorola decoder: https://static.maerklin....eba05386b81434541686.pdf

For sure it's without sound, so I would definitely recommend a new decoder no matter what, if it's the original decoder.
Also the control of the motor will be much better with a new decoder BigGrin

Per.

Cool

Hello Stuart
I just got that model, and it is definitely digital (not DCC). It works well with my mobile station 60657 and 60116 unit, drawing about 500mA with all ON. This model also have a smoke generator activated with the f1 command, and f0 for the light.
There is a switch on the board to choose from digital, AC or DC.
Sadly, I have no documentation about it. It could be that the decoder have more functions as there are 5 wires on the cable not used.
Cheers
Zurky
