There is a new SBB Class Re 420 locomotive Märklin 37875.

Märklin 37875

Märklin 37875 video

The Class Re 420 and 421 have been popular at Märklin lately. Also for 2022 we have the Re 421 double set 37300. Before we had the Cargo model 37340, and the Zürich-München model 37473.

It makes sense for Märklin to release multiple models from the same or similar molding, so the 37473 led to the 37340 (like 37345 but with newer markings), the 37300 (IRSI Private locomotive set). It is also possible that Märklin will also release a Re 421 in the WRS private livery.

The 37875 is a regular Re 4/4II. This will be the first Re 4/4II model with the new middle motor and the resulting modifications to the molding. This production opens up the possibility to new Re 4/4II (420) or Re 4/4III (430) models in the future.

And hot on the heels of the Marklin announcement is a Roco/Fleischmann announcement.

When I first saw it I thought that someone was having a laugh as marklin describe their livery as 'exclusive', but then I realised that the Roco/Fleischmann units are Re460s and while the background colour is very similar, the picture is different, and the locos do not have the colour on the ends like the Marklin ones.

The other side looks good too. It was also shown in the video that I linked in the initial post. Delivery in September if everything goes according to plans.

Before saying the sides look good, have a thorough analysis at the pictures of the model and the real locomotive.

- they have printed the drawings in the wrong side of the locomotive
- the SBB logo isn’t at the correct location
- when you look at the video, there is no transparency on the side windows of the model, as opposed to the real locomotive

Let’s just hope the delivery of the model on the 3rd quarter is the excuse to give them time to correct these mistakes.

If anyone wants the same design on an Re460, Roco is making them in d/c analog, DCC sound, and A/C sound. The sound models are 399 euros, analog E299.
If they have the new version Zimo MS450 decoder, they are fully MFX auto registering.

The Roco/Fleischmann Re460 does NOT have the same design as the Marklin Re420. It is very similar, but look at the design carefully. Note that Marklin claim their design is exclusive to them. I suspect the Roco/Fleischmann one is exclusive to them as well.

And I cannot get over how we have a discussion in three seperate threads for the same thing AGAIN.

I had not paid too much attention to the model vs prototype issue, other than immediately noting that the shell was from a Re 4/4II (420) while the chassis was that of a Re 421.

I am sure that details will be a lot more precise on the actual model compared to the pre-production mockup.

Alan:

I think that this is because one post was a thread about Re 4/4 models. The second was probably about the Roco Re 460 and the third is probably a mystery, but could have been about the 175th anniversary of Swiss trains (and models for that event). The posts should all have been moved to a topic about the 175th anniversary and not to either the Re 4/4 or Re 460 threads.

The Re 4/4 (420) has the Maerklin logo on the side. It does not say Trix or Miniclub on it. This locomotive is sponsored by Maerklin.
The Re 460 has Roco and Fleischmann logos on the side.
As far as I know, there is no plan for Roco to release a model of the Re 420, nor for Maerklin to release the Re 460.
Maerklin releasing a Z scale version of the Re 460 might make sense though.

The designs for the locomotives were done by the same person, which suggests that there was some coordination, perhaps it was SBB as middleman who handled that part of it?

For sure. This is typical. Often the prototype is quite different from the released model, and in my experience the released model is usually an improvement from the prototype. I was commenting mostly at the artwork myself, assuming other issues will be corrected for the released model.

I suspect that the SBB did the designs, then marketed them to the different MRR companies.

I wouldn't be surprised to find there are other designs yet to come out (maybe one for LGB?).

I wouldn't expect the Re460 to made in Z by marklin - that livery design has clearly been sold to Roco.

Different, but still SBB "175 jare". The difference can identify the brands in photos better.
