I am attempting to repair a gauge 1 BR23 which stalled out of sight against an obstruction and destroyed the decoder. I do not know if the motor was damaged before the decoder fried. So ideally I would like to separate the chassis and loco body to trace the wiring and then fit a Loksound 5 XL. But because I have too many variables it is a struggle to know what works and the correct connections to make. Does anybody know how to separate body and chassis or the wiring of the 24 pin connector between loco and tender. I believe ESU no longer carry spares for this vintage of custom installation.

I realise this is a low volume specialist model but it is too complicated to randomly undo screws on the off chance the larger previously used ones are the right ones. I have made that mistake with a Maxi loco which was painful enough to strip to its component parts and rebuild without my learning curve being visible in its wonkyness.
