Hi All

I am in the process of buying a 49950 Goliath Crane second hand.

I have noticed that it is quite an old model, digital, but will it work with my CS3?

How easy is it to control?

Anybody got an intertesting expierences with this model ?

Hi
I will work fine on the cs3, and it's quite easy to control it, with the cs3.

it's a nice crane and it works quite well. just be careful with the ropes. Give the ropes a good slack, when the boom is in the stowed position, to allow some moments when you are pulling it around the layout.

on my 49950 the counterweights have lost some magnetism, and they are therefore a bit tricky to attach and fall off easily.

the crane is a bit tricky to open for maintenance/repairs, ref: https://www.marklin-users.net/forum/posts/m620489-Marklin-49954-Crane#post620489

another possible downside is the age of the decoder, if the decoder fails it can be costly to fix.

best of luck.

I also have one and it is nice. One counterweight hook has broken off, but doesn't affect operation. Heavier loads require the magnets and blocks on the metal base plate.

Hi
thanks for the replies, so just to confirm
I just have to place it on my programming track and the CS3 will identify it?

I see in the manual, dip switch settings, what are they for?

No, it won't register automatically. But you can add it from the database, and make sure the address is identical to the dip switch settings

The dip switch is to set the digital address manualy.

If you want an mfx version that registers automatically, you should look for a 49954. the 49954 also has sound, and 49950 lacks that.

You can also have the 49950 retro fitted with a mfx sound decoder by these folks - cost is €185.
