Hi again,
I have a fairly decent 3631 Diesel locomotive, manufactured about 1989 according to the box.
It created a short when I put it on the tracks, lights off on the 6021 control unit.
When I opened the little choo-choo up, I saw that the wires from the decoder chip had totally deteriorated, in some instances just gone.
So my big question at this stage, I really do not need it to be digital, I can use it on my analog section of the lay-out.
Can I just remove the decoder and connect wires from the slider to the engine so that it becomes analog again ?
If so, which wires go where ?
Sorry if this is a stupid idea, but at this stage I think it is my only option, otherwise it is in the trash.Mad
Thanks
Tim

You could do this with it but do not bin it.

you would need to replace the decoder with an analog reversing unit, and replace the permanent magnet with the original style field coils.
It might be easier to repair the wiring if the decoder is OK, or replace the decoder.
