Thinking of buying Marklin steamer 36244 DB class 24. If anybody has this just wondered about what they say is a special motor. Not looking for a coffee grinder sound but something smooth and fairly quiet. Maybe asking too much of a cheaper model.
Any help appreciated.
David

Take care I like Marklin and will defend the worlds greatest model rail manufacturer.

Hi David
I have a BR24 from Märklin (36240 early version of the 36244 release in 2008) that I converted later with sound and Telex.
It is just working great and very silent except the sound decoder.
The motor is very compact and of the CAN type

Here is a short video of it

Very nice local loco that I highly recommend
Cheers
Jean

Many thanks Jean. I presume it will be the same motor in the newer version. Looks worth buying. Nice video.

Best wishes for 2022.

David

Hi
Thanks for you good wishes. Une très bonne année 2022 pour toi et ta famille.
Yes the motor and the entire loco is the same except the decoder replaced with a sound decoder
Here is mine and its decoder before transformation

Yes, presumably, a typical can motor with a flywheel like all newer models have. The 36624 parts list and diagram is online at Marklin.
