ESU wrote to a Swedish hobby shop that production of new decoders is declining due to semiconductors is running out.
The car industry is also feeling the effects.
I am not sure how long this effect will keep on...
Even Märklin there will be some problem by produce digital system and digital locomotives.

This has been known about since the end of the first lockdown, and quite widely commented on in various industries.

One comment has that one car manufacturer is putting dummy chips in some peripheral items and reducing available features because they cannot get the chips required to implement those features.

A lot of chips I am looking at for projects are out of stock at the manufacturer and on 12 month delivery for the next batch.

Yes, there is a resin shortage as well. That is what vehicle makers are doing. Items like heated rear seats, steering wheels, cooled seats, possibly distancing cruise control, and lane keeping assist in certain model lines, except high end trim level top of the line ones.
Examples; GMC Sierra, and Yukon Denali excluded, Cadillac Escalade, XT6, XT5, CT6, Chevrolet Tahoe, and Suburban Mountain Country edition's, Silverado HD 2500, and largest V8
powered models. Buick Enclave, Envison Avenir.
Ford Edge ST, Titanium, Expolrer ST, Titanium, Lincoln Aviator, Navigator, Nautilus, MXZ premium. Not offered on Corsair.
Jeep Grand Wagoneer, Grand Cherokee SRT8, L limited, premium, Cherokee Limited. Chrysler 300 C, Dodge Charger SRT8, and Hellcat- both to be doscontinued this summer, as Stelantis has cancelled the entire SRT program.
Lexus, BMW, Merc., Audi, unspecified, as is Acura, Honda, Mitsubishi, and Infiniti (Nissan).

Not sure about Hyandai/Kia, which have a premium brand called Genesis, and (Branthen, which are no different othere than badging), Mazda, or VW.

To produce a semiconductors you need a hell lot of water!
The resource is getting lesser and the fact tells as result.
I believe Märklin will do have some problem too and maybe this new year we will have lesser news by Märklin?
Digital system and digital locomotives needs semiconductors always.
Soon time to return back at seventies before digital year?

I don't know what all that water would be used for, and I am reasonably familiar with semiconductor production technology. Any water used for cooling will be recirculated, and any water used for cleaning will be filtered and recirculated, but cleaning is generally done using other liquids.

Just water, not "a hell lot of", unless you have to carry the water in buckets BigGrin

Per.

Just car industry it produce about 100 million cars every year and there is a lot electronic stuff in each car model.
So that is a lot of water to use by produce semiconductors!
We also have mobil phones and electronic in the model railway factory too.
The summary result problems for the factory to solve real problem.
So be sure there is problem for the Märklin soon or later like others too.

I know, I know - I will never learn.

But is there a point to this thread?
Regards,
Jim

I have almost all Märklin and mostly HO, although I do have a small number of Z gauge trains!
I have models from Era I to Era VI, but I try to focus on Eras I & III. Whoops, that one got away from me. Let's just say I focus on cool trains, regardless of the particulars :-)
So many trains and so little time.

Marklin also mention it in their video 113. It is not just semiconductors but all components.
