I need help in setting CV values for Marklin decoder 60972 to handle Marklin braking module 72441/72442. Right now, the lok will go at the same speed in section 1 and 2 of the braking module and stop abruptly in section 3. Most of my Marklin loks with factory-installed decoders ie., 6090x will slow down in section 1 and 2 and do not reach section 3, which is good. This decoder is a new decoder that I had installed and have not used in several years. I did do a reset. I thought the reset would not affect this slow-down feature. Can't remember whether it handled the slow down module feature before the reset.
Has anyone had this similar problem?
What can I do to correct this? Are there certain CVs I need to reset/readjust from factory settings, and what values should I use. Thanking you in advance,

Hi Bill

First, make sure that in the 2nd section you have DC when the braking module is set to stop. If the diode is short circuited then the problem is on the braking module or your wiring but not on the loco

If the decoder does not slow-down the loco, it has to do with CV27
The factory setting of the 60972 decoder (which should normally work) is 48
You may download the users manual here https://static.maerklin....32d65ba7b41604050997.pdf
Look at page 31 (top) "Braking not subject to direction: - 48: fx/mfx properties" This is the Märklin way of slowing down: any DC polarity will make the loco to slow sown and stop while lights remain on.
To change the setting you may need a CS2 or CS3 (not sure if it can be made with an MS2)
Cheers
Jean

Thanks Jean. I did what you recommended, set CV27=48. It did not correct the problem. My other Marklin locomotives with factory installed Marklin decoders, as well as locomotives that I installed with LPV3, 60942, and 6090x all behave well/normal with the slow-down module.
So, it may be a defect in this Marklin decoder 60972. I only have 1 of this decoder, so cannot compare with another 60972. So, that is why I am asking if anyone else has had the same issue as I am having with the 60972 decoder. Thanks Jean for your time.

Bill, Pardon this remark but if the inertia simulation (ABV= AnfahrBremsVerzögerung = OFF; on your decoder is switched OFF then the behaviour is quite normal
With the default factory programming, this is F4.
I hope this helps

Hi Jean:
I tried using function F4=off or on, and it did not make a difference. The locomotive performed the same. I rarely use the F4 function as I do not do shunting at all.

But the mystery thickens. Since the decoder is in an electric locomotive, and it can be run in both directions, as I was reversing it and running in the reveerse direction, I noticed the slow-down module works in the reverse direction.
So I tested by running it in reverse and now it handles the slow-down module. Very strange. I still think there is a defect in this decoder 60972??
So in the reverse direction, the decoder can handle the slow-down module, but in the forward direction it cannot handle the slow-down module.

Is there a CV I can set to reverse direction of travel of the decoder? Thanks in advance.

For the 60972 - CV29 may sound like what you want?

Configuration:
Bit 0: Reverse the locomotive’s direction properties
0 = normal direction
1 = invert direction
Bit 1: number of speed levels half levels 14 or 27
0 = 14 speed levels
1 = 27 speed levels / half levels Bit 2: turn analog operation on/off
0 = analog off, 1 = analog on
0 -7
6
The direction properties refer to the direc- tion of travel and the lights.
The number of speed levels and half levels depend on the locomotive controller.
Only digital operation or also conventional operation. Flipping back and forth between the modes is possible during operation.

Thanks, I set CV29=1 and it reversed the direction and the lights. Works well now in this direction that I usually run it.

Do you think my 60972 is defective when it works in 1 direction only, and not the other direction. Are there additional CVs I need to readjust and set so that it works in both directions? Thanking you in advance.
