I just received my 97202AC 6 coach SBB Cisalpino Coach Set.
The set contains two Apm and 4 Bpm coaches. The coaches carry destination signs for the Cisalpino EC "Lemano", which ran between Geneva, Milano and back via the Simplon line.

I will be running this train with a Re 460, Re 484 (Cargo) or Re 4/4II. ACME has a model of the Re 484 in Cisalpino livery and Maerklin has a fantasy Hobby locomotive in that livery.

A little over a decade ago, I was fortunate to purchase a few Roco SBB Cisalpino coaches commissioned by Eyro (Interlaken). Those coaches will be used in a combination with standard livery SBB coaches to recreate the Cisalpino EC "Borromeo" between Milano and Bern.
I also have the ACME Sets representing the FS coaches used in the Cisalpino EC "Canaletto" between Schaffhausen and Venice.

I will be posting some photos of the new LSM consist in a few days.

If anybody is interested, this AC set is limited and there are a few sets still available at select dealers. A greater quantity of DC sets exist, but they too are limited in production.

Regards

Mike C

@5HorizonsRR: That's what I told her right before she slapped me!

and now back to the news...

Today's arrivals were the PiRATA (LSM) PI9705 and 9706 sets, composing the core of the EC 6/7 Hamburg-Chur.
I decided to order only two of the three sets. For the moment, I will be running the 6 coaches along with a Roco 45329 WRm (EWIV). The third set (9707) with two additional Bpm coaches would bring the total consist length to 9 coaches (with the restaurant), which is too long for my average setup.

If I choose, I can supplement the consist with individual coaches from the 4735X models.

Here are my LSM and Roco/Eyro EC 6/7 Consists (Roco/Eyro Front, LSM Rear):

Hello Mike,
Thanks for the review.

I always liked the look of the Cisalpino coaches in two-tone grey and blue stripe.
There is something clean and bright about them.
Not that I ever travelled in them.

Märklin issued the trainset 26544 with loco and 3 coaches probably prior to 2000, which I think is the one you referred to as "a fantasy Hobby locomotive in that livery".
How would this set have stacked up against or with these new issue cars?

26544

regards
Kimball

ACME was the first company to release a model of Trenitalia coaches painted in the Cisalpino livery. The "Canaletto" and "Cinque Terre" Sets came out starting in 2006. Maerklin released their set AFAIR in 2008. Unlike the ACME Sets, the Maerklin offering included the solo SBB Apm coach which was part of the actual consist. Collectors of 1/87 models had to wait until 2010/11 when Eyro released a repainted Roco model to complete their ACME consists. There was also a version from Wabu, but the paint colours did not match the actual livery.
In the past year, ACME announced a reissue of the Trenitalia coaches (set of 3) along with a new TI Restaurant coach model and a SBB Re 484. After LSM announced the SBB Cisalpino models in 1/87, the Swiss importer (KML) increased the production quantity of the ACME Re 484 to accommodate those who might buy the LSM coaches, also distributed by their company.

I have the ACME Sets (55002/55003). With the Eyro SBB coach, that consist recreates The EC Canaletto, which ran along the Gotthard.
The Maerklin Set and the 41897 coach represents the same consist*.

The LSM coach set recreates one of the trains which ran on the Loetschberg/Simplon routes or the Simplon/Rhone route**. The SBB EC Coaches in Cisalpino livery were not normally to be found on the Gotthard other than the single coach in the TI consists.

* The Re 484 in Cisalpino livery were most frequently used with trains on the Simplon route (either Loetschberg or Rhone). On the Gotthard route, traction was normally a pair of Re 4/4II or a single Re 460. I seem to recall that one of the SBB consists (with Re 484) was used for an end of day run from Milano to Bellinzona and would return to Milano in the morning before heading back north via the Simplon route.

** The LSM set comes with destination signs for the EC Lemano, which operated between Milano and Geneva. That route was operated by SBB and FS (TI) consists, some in Cisalpino livery and others in either SBB or FS liveries. As stated above, the consists on the Simplon route would either be pulled by Re 484 or Re 460.

In 2010, I had ordered a few SBB EC Coaches in the Cisalpino livery. I did not order the entire consist. I was able to create a consist with a mix of Cisalpino liveried coaches and SBB EC liveried ones. Using most of the same coaches, I could also create a consist in the post-Cisalpino era. I had thought that this was the best use of my money at that time. Had I have known that Roco would bring out the post-Cisalpino models a few years later, I might have bought a few more Cisalpino ones from Eyro and waited on the post-CIS versions.

My goal was to be able to reproduce one of the Lötschberg consists. The LSM Set does exactly that, even though the destination signs say Geneva.

About the Märklin 26544 set plus 41896 extension car:

According to a 2008 HAG-Forum thread (with contributions by our very own Mike C), the sin of the loco is to pose as a pure-bred Re 484 while it is rather an adapted RE 482. The criticism is complemented by the usual 1/100 coach length lamenting.

I was not thrilled to see that Maerklin issued the model with a Re 482 painted like a Cisalpino Re 484. There are visible differences, especially in the roof details between the two models.
Brawa used the same cheap technique on their Re 484, leaving only ACME and Roco as having released models which were prototypical for the Re 484, and of those two models, the ACME model had some technical issues. Roco never made the Cisalpino livery, but fortunately a number of runs occurred with regular Cargo 484s, so my consist ended up being prototypical.
I never had any issues with the 1/100 scale length of the coaches.

I have two sets of the 26544 (only one came with a lok), plus two 41897 2nd class coaches.

If you are going to go unprototypical, I found the Cisalpino consist to be the ideal consist to run with the 83434 Silver edition Re 4/4II.

The ones mentioned in this topic, LSmodels 97202. Two out of six, and a third improved after some running.
Nothing dramatic, but at 100 € per coach is annoying.

I had some bogie issues with the Pirata EC Set. I did not notice any problems with the 97202. It seems that there is on some models, a part on the bogie which is interfering with the underside of the chassis. I don't know if this is the squeak you refer to or whether you may have had another issue.
