Are Relex couplings compatible with (MAERKLIN) Short ones? MAERKLIN recommended for the 4035 car set 36741 tank locomotive. The cars have permanently fixed Relex couplings, while the locomotive has Short ones. Is this possible in these terms to couple directly the locomotive to the cars?

They are compatible. But, as always, there are no guarantees. There can be instances where cars and locomotives don't behave as they should because of tiny differences and if one happen to have "problematic" spots on the layout.
