Good evening all.
Marklin has made, afaik, two versions of this model.

37265 - digital decoder, controlled high-efficiency propulsion. This appeared in 2003 if I'm not mistaken. Old type decoder, maybe a C90 ?

37487 - an mfx digital decoder and extensive sound functions. It also has controlled high-efficiency propulsion and a powered center unit. This appeared in 2018 if I'm not mistaken. More modern decoder

They both have interior lighting installed.

15 years have goe by between the two versions. apart from the mfx decoder and the sounds on the more recent one are there huge differences between the way they look and feel ?

The story of this train is that in 1959 the last remaining ET 87 was taken out of service. Regrettably, all of them were scrapped. How did they manage to make a sound project for the model if there aren't any preserved trains ?

Has anybody got this model and is willing to speak about it ?
Thank you
Marco

Marklin played their confusion game from early on for this item.

While I may not have a "1st batch" I do have the item from its original production run and it came, new ex factory, with an mFX decoder and a mfx sticker on the box.
So yes, a nice surprise given the CS1 was not yet out (announced but delayed 18 months) so the Mobile Station had another friend to itself

The manual is the same (dated 02 04 ) that can currently be downloaded from the Maerklin Products website and does not refer to the mfx capability

Hi Marco/All,

I have the 37265 and it has a c91 decoder (701.22B) with F0, F1 and F4 as functions.

I had some short circuits and poor grounding with this model and documented it in the following.

Strange Bits Part 1

See pages 27 and 28.

Hope it helps
Ross

Peter, Ross thank you very much. Decoders apart, are the two sets identical from a bodywork perspective or there are huge differences? Are they both metal or only the older one is metal?
Cheers
Marco

There are a number of models from around that time that originally did not come out with mfx decoders, but later models in the run, or perhaps a second run, came out fitted with mfx. I don't know if they just ran out of decoders or if it was a marketing exercise to push mfx.

I have 37265 (wine-red with 60901 decoder), 37266 (green/cream with mfx decoder), and 37287 (cream/red with mfx decoder and sounds).

They all have plastic body shells.

Nigel thank you for your answer. So they are both plastic.
Hatton second hand sale has the 37265. From the photos it is impossible todetermine whether it looks good and runs well either.
Undecided whether to get the 37265 or the 37487 now. If I get the 'older' version will I regret this decision later ? I'm not really that much into soud stuff anyway.

From the exploded view of the set it is impossible to change the decoder of the 37265 or the 37487 with a more modern one at a later stage as it is all one piece with the PCB :-(

mmmmmmmmmm thinking mmmmmm
