Hi everyone,

I thought I'd ask the experts here: after struggling with 3 crumbling seetal crocodile frames (including replacement work) for zinc pest, I gave up in a fit when 1 by 1 the plastic gears started crumbling from "plastic pest" on the models. I sold them all for parts

The problem is they were easily some of my favorite locomotives. They have been reissued several times since, and I was wondering if anyone know of the both of these problems have been rectified in later models, and which specific part numbers the "good" Crocs are?

thanks!

Yes, the first issue ones are plagued with it. Theses were produced during Kingsbridge capital ownership. Mine is a brown one. item #37521. While it hasn't yet visible crumbling, a cardan shaft won't stay connected because the bogie pin holding it to the center frame has dissapeared. At least thats as much as I can see.
It still runs, but only one set of drivers.
I inquired with Reynaulds about repair. Rey said send it, but he is no expert in repair. I asked Guy at AJC Kids via e-mail but never got a reply. I expect the cost of repair excedes the price of a newer better model. So she's a display queen.

The only way you are going to win there is buying the parts and doing it all yourself, but if the replacement gears are no good either (I know the frame issue has been solved), there is not much point.

Not true. Märklin was still family-owned when the Seetal crocodiles with zinkpest (e.g. 37521) were made. We cannot blame that on Kingsbridge. Märklin quality went down the drain long before Kingsbridge came.

Tom

Ok Tom, but by the time any pest began emerging, the "family" was already divested.
