To me it would depend on how dirty the engine was and how much I wanted to clean it. If it had dust in every little crack & crevasse that my be a practical solution to getting everything clean.

You can see that the engine is not in great shape with lots of paint wear. If after its "bath", you blew off all the excess water, dried it with a hair dryer and re-oiled the axle bearings, I think it would be fine. Every engine I have purchased was never in that bad of shape to require such cleaning.

It would have been interesting if they had shown some closeup pics of the engine before and after its cleaning.

It is the poor man ultrasonic cleaningBigGrin .
Unless it is a new generation of German submarineCool
It works but I would not use just water but a recommended cleaning agent.
The key issue is to remove all remaining liquid and prevent rust. Then lubrication is needed of course.
Now seriously I would not do it with my valuable "SuperModelle" of 1951 (DL800, G800, CCS800) unless I have an ultrasonic cleaning tool.
