I have never seen real life the MÄRKLIN 00765 freight car set, for 20 cars it seems to be very cheap in price, is it worth it?

Is $620.00 US cheap even for 20 cars? An avergae Marklin ho feight car is about $30. Times 20 is $600.00. I suppose if one wants so many the same, it's a good way to get them all at once from one place.

Not to me. But I am stuck with the prices from 1968 @ 3.00 - 4.75 for passenger cars (metal)

I did not mean to be facetious about it, the hobby that is listing it in my area is listing it for 100$ hence my question.
I did not check elsewhere, may be I should have.

In any case, I ordered it. Thanks

AJCKids has at least one in stock for $620 USD. If you got a set for $100 USD, then that's a bargain!

It is a 2011 new item. So maybe some dealers sell it by now with a "shelf-queen" discount. $100 for the whole set is a bargain.
Some eBay dealers offer subsets only, e.g. 2 or 3 or 4 cars. Make sure it really is the complete set.

Regards
Tom

$100 is a deal! I missed his post with that. Depending upon area demographics and demands, a discontinued item might be more desired at a higher price. Rarity also is a factor. Everything being bigger in Texas as we say, maybe some layouts are too. It's also closer to California with well heeled collectors and such. There aren't so many shops now. One in Burbank for the L.A. area. Allied trains in Culver City has closed, just south of Beverly Hills, etc. That's where Frank Sinatra and Gary Coleman shopped. Frank had O scale, Gary Marklin. Perhaps Rod Stewart ordered from there. His layout is American NY City themed.
I think San Diego has a dealer still, in El Cajon. Orange County has some mega size homes too near Irvine, Laguna Niguel, etc.
I can think of a huge layout currently being built for California that could use that set.

Well it did not turn out as good as I had thought but still a good deal.

I did not get 20 cars but I got 6 which for 100$ is still a great deal. Looks like others have jumped on it because it shows no more in stock any more.

But the shop listing was for the set of 20 cars at $100 or it said 5 at $100 ?

Shop listing was misleading and it showed the 20 car set picture and only that one and the description from the 20 car set.

Yes I know I could have probably made a fuss but there are few hobby shops still alive that still cater to Märklin stuff in my neck of the woods, so I will leave it as that. I managed to order an other one before they ran out so I am happy with 12 cars in the end.
