Hi, Am I right in my understanding that one can use a Lionel 1033 AC transformer ( or any AC transformer with right 16 volt output) on an analog m- track system? With the only limitation that train cannot be reversed due to the fact that non-marklin transformers normally don’t give the current burst to reverse train?

Some companies released transformers for accessories which had an output of 14-16VAC. These provide power but have no throttle or spike control, so cannot generate either adjustable voltage or reverse spike. Basically the equivalent of Maerklin's 6002. I'm not sure about how this Lionel transformer works, nor what the red and black handles control.

Yes it works but indeed it can't reverse the loco. The red handle is for the whistle. There is another issue, Lionel transformers output usually starts something above 0 volts, 4-6 commonly so some low speed control will be lost.

I didn't realize that Tom. Thanks. I've never run analog, just digital.

Thanks Tom and Roger. Looks like it will work, sort from reversing direction.

Dont really see the point of using a transformer if you cant reverse the direction of the loco. Maybe if just one circle of track so the loco always just goes round and round one way. |
Take care I like Marklin and will defend the worlds greatest model rail manufacturer. |

Round and around can get to different directions....
