Hello everyone. This is the first time I've posted and it happens to be a question that is probably very basic for 99% of you. I'm half way through installing 20 - 74491 turnout motors. I bought and installed 10 -74461 digital decoders to use with my Mobile Station and have now decided I would rather operate them using the 72710 control boxes instead. I like seeing at a glance the status of all turnouts rather than having to continually check the status on the Mobile Station. It was recommended to me to buy the 6646 transformer but at $130 this seems like over kill since I'm only going to be using it to power the turnout motors. Any suggestions for alternatives would be appreciated. I've been working on my 15'x5' layout for 18 months and have found it's 5% actual work and 95% research!
Many Thanks!

$130 would be very excessive for a transformer. Where are you seeing that price?

To operate points you could use a transformer similar to the mobile station one.

I'm actually in Canada and that was the price quoted by a dealer in the US for the Marklin 6646 transformer. But it seems I can use anything that provides the same output...just having to wire it up. Something that would provide 24v input. These seem relatively cheap.

Thank you for the response. I actually picked up a variable output transformer from Amazon for 15 bucks and just re-jigged the wiring and all is good!
