Would doing the digital/motor upgrade to the LFCM motor in my old Minex steamer quiet it down some. I know it did in my 3060 F unit diesel in HO scale, but it has a diecast shell. The plastic shell on the Minex engine makes a nice sound chamber to amplify motor noise and its annoying. Runs great otherwise. Thanks in advance. Mike

Hi Mike,

Short answer is yes. The question is by how much? I did a conversion on my 1 gauge BR80 which has a plastic body, and it made a substantial difference. Hope that helps.

Regards,

Mike

Thanks Mike, aquiring one of those early gauge 1 class 80's is on my list, but I want the green cab/tank version over the all black version.

I would suggest that an easy (and cheap) method of quietening it would be to make the shell less resonant by sticking those double sided sticky pads used for attaching things to walls on the inside of the shell. Just don't remove the cover paper on the second side. I'm thinking of recent threads here where people were dealing with Br06 streamlined locos that seemed to have noisy body shells.

You won't need to cover the inside of the shell, just some pads in places where the shell is thin or has large areas of reduced thickness should make a difference.
