I have just purchased a second-hand M Track Uncoupler and Light Post, but as usual am not sure how this is supposed to work!

Could someone please give me a simple explanation of how they work, and how to wire it in! (I'm getting on in years and very new to all this, so any help really appreciated.)

Is there a manual for this available online?

Hi (no first name)
The M track uncoupler is a 5112 and its manual is not on line.
A more recent unit (C Track) has this manual https://static.maerklin....8bdfb75cd81515412369.pdf
It is very easy to use: it needs 16 VAC power during not more than 10 seconds
The light post needs also 14 V or 16 V (Märklin) depending on the model.
Cheers
Jean

The light post plugs straight into the two sockets on the side of the track piece. The light comes on when power is supplied to the uncoupling track to actuate it. Don't keep the power on for too long or the coil will over heat.

Use one connection on a 7072 control box to operate it.

If you have lots of points as well, I recommend you couple the power wire to the same side of the 7072 control box the switches the adjacent point in the direction of the uncoupler. Yellow wire goes to the yellow power socket of the transformer and the blue to the connection on the 7072. The 7072 is connected to the earth side of the transformer [ brown terminal ]. Of course, as Alan has mentioned, the light plugs into the side of the uncoupler track.

ps, I run bus wire around my track, brown for earth, yellow power to accessories and one each red for power to individual lines for running analogue trains.
