I have a Marklin layout, using a MS2. After several months of smooth sailing, this morning I decided to change the position in the lower screen for one of my locomotives. I deleted it, re-positioned it, and added the loco via the database. All good. But now that loco AND the other locos I have will only go in REVERSE (even if I change direction). Any ideas what happened and how to fix?

Thanks

Bart

My first question would be...

Have you reset the MS2?

First, unplug the adapter from the wall and the box
Unplus the MS2 from the box

Wait 30 seconds, plug the MS2 back in and then reconnect the adapter to the wall and the box.

See if you still have the same issue.

If there is still an issue, make sure that the MS2 is set for the appropriate system be it MFX, MM, and/or DCC in whichever order you prefer.
If it is somehow stuck in one, locomotives not set for that system might not respond to commands

Hi Mike:
Thanks for your advise.

I have reset the MS2 following your steps.

The problem still persists.

I restarted the whole system.

I added one loco from the database. Digital but not mfx. The Loco Protocol is set to "DCC,mfx,MM2"

Same problem: runs only in reverse. Pushing the big red button: also reverse.

Any thoughts?

Bart

I am guessing that your MS2 is stuck in DCC mode and is not sending the appropriate commands to locomotives that might require MFX or Motorola protocols.
Are your locomotives Maerklin or other AC models? DCC is not required for Maerklin locomotives.
Try changing the locomotive protocols to MFX, MM2, DCC or just MFX, MM2 and see if that changes things

Hi
I must say I don't have an MS2. According to Märklin a reset (Factory Default Settings MS2) is described in page 20 of the manual
See attachment below
This reset will erase all your setting and set back your MS2 like when you purchased it.
MS2 UsersManual.pdf (7,310kb) downloaded 22 time(s).

Another approach would be to check if your locos are working OK when in analogue mode
Cheers
Jean

Hi!
Do the arrows on the display change when you try to reverse direction?

Problem solved! As recommended, I changed the Loco Protocol to each of the other options, but each resulted in the same "stuck in reverse" outcome. Then I set it back to the original "DCC,mfx,MM2", and behold, it works. All very squirrely, but I won't complain...

I've added a 2nd loco: still good.

Thanks for the great input! Especially Mike.
