I like to experiment with different train electronics. I have an Athearn diesel lok that has an 8 pin NEM connector. I purchased a 60983 for the lok. I’m also using a Trix MS2, which, and if I understand correctly, is a Marklin MS2 rebranded. I plugged the 60983 into the Athearn - I do have correct pin orientation, powered on the Trix MS2, the MS2 finds the decoder and indicates success. However the lok does not move or do anything. No lights, nothing. The lok works fine with a Digitrax decoder. I messed around with settings and more or less forced the 60983 into a DCC mode and the lok did start working. However, after I was messing around with some other loks that use Digitrax, they worked. I put the lok with the 60983 back on the track and it wouldn’t work. I’d prefer to work with one decoder brand, Marklin (I guess because I’m a purist).
Does anyone have any suggestions or insight why the lok won’t work with 60983?
Oh, and based on color codes, etc, I tried moving wires to different pins but no luck with that working either.
Thanks,
Steve
