Hi, I am new to the forum, new to the Marklin transformer. I have been given A primex starter set, it has a blue controller, Marklin 27540. The primex has a piece of track with red and black wires coming from it. The Marklin controller has three holes(to connect wires?) The holes are Labelled O B L. Is this the correct controller please? If so How do I wire the track to the controller? Hope this is okay to ask, did a small search but couldn't find the specific criteria to help me.
Thanks

Hi Peter,
Yes it is the correct transformer. The brown wire goes to the hole marked O, and the red to the hole marked R (a little counter intuitive to English speakers I know). The hole with an L is normally for a yellow wire feeding unregulated 16 vac to drive accessories (used in conjunction with the hole marked O).
If you set has an instruction manual check it for lubricating the loco. If it is missing, there is info on the forum here to help with that.
Cheers....
Mike

Many thanks, for that info, just want to get the loco running so I can see it is worth adding bits to it, as an absolute novice then it would be a big learning curve.

Well loco works! Bit of sparking on the way round?
Will have a look now for oiling the loco. Don't want to spoil it.

Mike You DO of course mean Red to the hole marked "B' (Bahn)...... not 'R' Specsavers?? O = Masse / Ground / Earth (I have still not found a German word, beginning with O that makes sense for this, but always happy to learn) B = Bahn / (Bahnstrom - Power) L = Licht / Lights It is absolutely instinctive to plug the Brown cable into the 'B' connector I know. I did it with my first Digital set and wondered why I had no control? I've come a long way since then. |

I think the 0 is a zero - i.e. ground. (Null)

Also new here. Just set up layout with M track Insulating between 2 big sections and 2 transformers Each has 2 distribution clips one red /one brown total 4 in all Following above replies but confused Am i supposed to only use 3 in all. Is the same brown to come from both sides?
I inherited trains and have no manual. Thank you!

yes, you can combine the ground (brown) wires, but check that the two transformers are plugged into the same power circuit, and that they are both plugged in with the correct polarization. Then one red to each isolated section.
The two brown outputs should have no voltage between them. To check that, plug in both transformers and then touch the ends of the brown wires together. If there is a spark, switch the polarity of one of the transformers power plugs and try again.
Note: if the transformers are the old type with metal housing, and if the power cables are very old, you should have the cables replaced before using them, as a perished power cable could now be shorting to the metal case and that would be dangerous. |

If you are still not sure, you can always post a picture of the setup and someone will be able to give exact instructions. Cheers.... Mike

Yes that's the only thing that makes sense, and yet, so many times when you see it in literature, or devices, it still seems more like O than 0 - it's very un-German |
