Hi all

Here in Finland just ended an interesting auction of old Märklin. It was described as for spare parts and not working etc. But there was very interesting old Märklin locos like TW 800.1 (Violett/Cream color), SK 800 some older rare looking version and some parts of HR 700.1 and other parts. See this link below:

Old Märklin auction in Finland

What do you Collectors think about the price 751 euro? In my opinion it was way too cheap price for these parts as TW 800 in this version must be very expensive. I wish I had more money to play with I could have maybe got it for say 800-1000 euro... I have not seen before this old Märklin for sale in Finland. There was Second World War 1939-1945 in Finland too and we did not have expensive toy trains in Finland like there was in some other countries during that time. I don’t know how these have ended to Finland but they look original to me

Best regards,
Janne

Hi Janne,

Thanks for posting! These are absolutely original and very rare items, although in rough condition. They could certainly be repaired.

As for the price? The 351 F coach alone is worth more than 800 EUR! That's the car with the special eagle emblem. The HR 700 dates from 1936/37 most likely. The TW 800 and green SK 800 are from 1938/39 roughly ....

In my opinion the value of this lot might be in the 3.000 EUR or more range. If the TW 800 were repaired it alone could be worth that much.

All the best,

Paul

Hi Paul

Thanks for your reply. I thought that you will know best about these old items. I knew these are rare and original items. Unfortunately I did not have enough extra money to compete in that auction. I don’t know if the seller knew how much these items were worth of. Probably he did not know it. I just sometimes wonder how all these items have got in the first place to that seller. Maybe these have been some toy trains of 1930’s or 1940’s for some mansions rich owners kids or something like that and put away for decades. It is not typical to find these kind of old Märklins in Finland and it is even harder to think of anyone at that time to have had those kinds of Märklin in Finland. Maybe someone who had good contacts or travelled in Germany.

Best regards,
Janne
