Hi Guys,

Question. A friend has a Santa Fe loc, number 3662 (MHI), digital. The loc does not work as it should. It runs off in one direction at high speed (on a digital central). The decoder inside is no. 60285, so a 6080/c80 delta coder. A bit dated.

There is also a PCB inside (platine), with the part number 62429. It can still be ordered from Märklin, yet I haven't got a clue on what it does.

a) Does anyone knwo what this 62429 does?
b) If we were to repair this loc, how would we best proceed? Replace the 6080 by a modern day decoder and what about this 62429?

Thanks in advance,

Steven

Steven: My best advice for your friend - have a new M6090 H.E. Propulsion Set (€80.-) installed by your dealer. Works like a charm in any F7 [:p]

Have a nice day,

Good advice.biggrin
The 6080 has so many missing features compared to modern decoders you may as well do the complete upgrade. If you friend is comfortable with non-marklin decoders, your dealer can probably supply the motor update parts as a separate kit. (Mine dowink)

Hi,

Thanks for the feedback so far.

I can certainly build in a 6090x propulsion set for this friend (I have the habit of converting my own locs to 6090x), or order the motor parts and use a Kühn or Lokpilot decoder.
I am just not sure if there is anything else inside this loc next to the 6080 decoder. He mentions a PCB with part number 62429, so I am wondering if this is something used in the Santa Fe loc to connect the lights to the 6080 decoder. Or maybe this is just the number of the PCB layout of the decoder...

I'll ask this friend to make a digital picture of this loc's insides. I guess this is best to verify it

Remember that this model has two motors.

The comparable set #37621, c90-based apparently doesn't need this pcb anymore, due to the lower current drawing High Propulsion Motors.

Lutz

Hi Lutz,

So if I would install a high propulsion engine, this PCB can
be omitted. Anyway, two motors means double cost of conversion [}:)]

Not really; as mentioned in another reply earlier converting the "old c80 beast" with a nice, smooth running c90 (#600085, PG19 - dealer spare part price about 100€). That decoder cost is needed in any instance; it provides enough power to drive both motors.

Just needed are the parts for the two motor conversions (magnet, anchor, motor shield and two induction coils from a 60901/60760 set). They cost about 18€ each, i.e. 36€ total.

So, the decoder really is the most expensive item.

Lutz

Hi Lutz,

So, basically I convert the two motors with the usual spare parts for a DCM motor and wire the two motors to the same decoder, dropping the 62429 PCB.

Is the wiring as simple as just splitting the green and blue wire coming from the decoder to the two engines?

Hi Steven,

the decoder is a special version just built for these models with two motors. Needless to say, You need to know the wiring scheme for it.

Regards,
Lutz
