Is there any issue with running a Märklin 8802 Track Cleaning Z-scale Railbus in reverse? For example, can it be driven onto a spur and then backed out? What about the 88021 upgraded (with five pole motor and LEDs) version? Thanks.

According to the instructions for 88021 "use vehicle in forward motion only"

See page 3 of instruction booklet: 88021 Instructions

Cheers,

Harold.

If it is ABLE to run backwards, you can certainly do that without problems.

I would suspect, though, that the cleaning-aparatus also reverses its function, and becomes a dirtying-system! ;-)

"forward motion only" - THAT's why I didn't find anything by using "reverse" as a search key!

I assume that the old 8802 has similar restrictions.

That means the new layout shall have no spurs, only sidings.

Thanks to everybody.

My memories of the 8802 is it will run in reverse. The cleaning wheel is has 'serrations' on it and is driven at twice the speed of the main running wheels so it has a 'track grinder' effect to clean the rails. The cleaning wheel is made of brass IIRC so is relatively soft compared to the rails.
