I purchased the following Marklin car on e-bay. It looks like a 4038.2 except it has a Luzern flag instead of a Swiss flag. I can't find anything like it in my Koll or Greenberg books. I also searched in Google. Does anybody know what it is?

I also have a 4038.2 and included it here for comparison.

Hopefully I attached the images correctly.Confused

I don't know why the second images was not in the post.

The letter on the Luzern car look green while the letter on the 4038 is yellow.

The Luzern coat of arms is a decal likely added by a previous owner.
It probably comes from the little sheet of decals Märklin was delivering along with the 3050 Ae 6/6 locomotives, which allowed people to renumber the engines and give themm another coat of arms if they so liked
Other than that, the coach looks good!

I second Jacques' assessment. It is a 4038 with the Luzern crest from a 3050 Ae 6/6.
I have seen a number of models where people have felt the urge to add decals. Not my thing but if it floats your boat...

I took a closer look and it looks like it is indeed a decal. It has a bit more shine that the rest of the body, but it does look good. It makes it unique. Any offers over $1,000.00 will be seriously consideredBigGrin .
