Dear All

I have a couple of the old Marklin DB 101 electric locomotives eg 37396. Is it possible to change the LED's on theses from the yellow LED's to the white LED's for both the normal and long distant headlights using the existing Marklin decoder. Or does any company manufacture a new headlight pcb.

Many thanks

Andy

depends on your soldering skills.... what does the headlight PCB look like?

Surface mount components (SMT) are harder to do, the older bigger LEDs are pretty easy.

If it is available as a spare part you could order a spare and see if you can replace the LEDs with white ones. If you mess it up your loco is unchanged...

Märklin make such PCBs for the current 101 models.

When I use the new PCBs with the old 6090x decoders I add 10k resistors in series for normal and red lights. I skip the extra resistor for the long-distance headlights.

Here a picture of a converted 182 (same principle, different PCB):

The replacement LED board is E123905 and costs 21 € (I guess each, not a pair).
I replaced the LEDs myself, it's a tough job, requires soldering skill as 0402 size LEDs are needed. But it works.

And this is the result, comparing a 37372 with a 37399 with original lights.

Mybe too bright, but it's just matter of replacing resistors. Nothing else was changed.
