Would like to know if these decoders are in the same catogory as the TAMS ones or are they somewhat better then Tams, am interested as from what i have seen they are comparable in price to Tams and they fit well within my budget. Would be interested in any and all feed back on these. Many thanks from South Australia. Zimo Decoders for N to O scale

Zimo decoders are the Champagnes of decoders!
The best of the best bar none!
Bernard Lenz invented DCC and Zimo took DCC to another class level.
Years back I had the pleasure of experiencing first hand the Zimo way of DCC control from the importer for Canada. I was totally blown away. Unfortunately it was then out of my reach financially so I went with ESU instead.

Zimo decoders are known as Rolls Royce decoder but whether they are suitable for a layman is one of my concerns, unless you know all your CV's and have the ability to program such a decoder is up to the individual. Roco locos have all Zimo decoders, they both are manufactured in Austria. My personal choice are ESU decoders and I had a long look at these decoders and their digital system and found it was to difficult for me to get my head around, especially programming them., if they already have been installed in a loco (from the factory such as Roco) you may not need to program them any further such as sound decoders. Zimo offers now a loco programmer and I think it comes in 2 parts. (MXULF or MXULFA = with display) As I studied the different components you can buy I've decided it was to difficult for me to understand or to follow it all. the decoders they manufacture have a wide range of options, e.g. Aux functions, 1.2 Amps, max. 2.5 Amp and as technology advances Zimo decoders are always updated if major updates occur I don't know whether they can be updated similar to ESU decoders from V 4.0 to V 5.0 and most probably Märklin decoders come into the same category. The information I've gathered may not be accurate but all in all the Zimo system apparently are for larger layouts, why I don't know. John |

I too use Zimo sound decoder but also D&H. Both of the sound decoder do have excellent acoustics sounds. Of course ESU too. For many years ago i did had an BLI locomotive made in USA and a Zimo decoder without sounds...damn it was so perfect smooth drive capacity. But i did sold the locomotive because i wasn´t interested in american locomotives. But the driving capacity was so impressive! |

John It appears to just show the new (v2) Zimo decoder programmer board, showing its smaller than the older V1 (I assume) as well as highlighting some new ports? (one would have to be familiar with the port shapes and whats on them already to know; I don't), as well as showing how to put the display into the version with that display. It is a very odd video, indeed. |
