Guys I've got a running problem with a recent used purchase a Trix 22584 crocodile. This is the older version with only one powered bogie from around 2002.

The motor spins up smoothly applying power directly to any of the 8 axles, and it runs ok on curves too with no flickering from the lights, but on the straights it stutters and stalls on insulfrog turnouts.

I can't see any loose wiring or dirty pick-ups. Is there a known issue with shorts from the way the 2 bogies articulate ?

OK, I think I've solved it. The small leading bogie had oil around the small plastic wheel insulating collar. Enough to cause a short with the axle which is live. All 8 axles pick up current.

Be careful with lubrication, it's likely a leading cause of lumpy running...

Odd, most oils are highly effective electrical insulators...

Perhaps it's the intermittent nature of the insulation that was causing the problems ?

The running is better now but still not perfect( assuming this design was a good runner)
