Hi,

Not sure if this is the right place to put it, but on my recent trip to visit a friend in Chicago, one of my wishes was to go on a train journey. I picked La Crosse, 5 hours away on the Empire Builder, departing from Chicago's Union station.

I'm not saying there are many, or great, photos here, just some snaps from the journey.

Thanks

Nice photos, thanks.
I can't help thinking how different to Europe - the growl of the diesels is so much noisier than the electrics.

I grew up in Denmark and now live in England, and I have never really come across electric trains much, other than city commuter units.

This reminds me of 1970s train trips with my dog to club training in the Netherlands. The first leg of the trip was by diesel (originally these sets were referred to colloquially as "Blauwe Engel" [blue angel] as they were painted blue, while electric sets were green, but at the time they were red, sometimes referred to as "Rode Duivel" [red devil]), and the noise and vibration in these diesel sets were the only phenomenon in transport that made my dog restless (in other trains, be it electric train sets or coaches, he just disappeared under the bench and took a nap).

I don't seem to have made any photo of such diesels (failing to capture what seems to be trivial at the time until it is too late …).
