Two old cars by Fleischmann with incompatible couplers. Fleischmann 1466 and 1468. Couplers are fixed with screws (see image). Looks rather easy to replace them with Marklin couplers (not necessarily shown 214110). Is it possible ? Which Marklin couplers would you suggest ?Thanks.

Fleischmann probably at one time had a coupler with a normal Maerklin head which could be used with this type of car. I will try to see if I can find more information. You can also check with APC-Adams to see if they have parts for this. This might be a solution. Roco makes a Fleischmann head which has a NEM socket and could be used with any Maerklin car with socket to couple with your Fleischmann car(s). https://www.roco.cc/de/p...0-003005-0/products.htmlRegards Mike C

Hi Ivan, Fleischmann Marklin-type couplers are still available in some model shops to replace the ones shown in your photo. That coupler in the photo is held in by a plug (not a screw) which can be withdrawn by hand or with a small pair of pliers. Then the coupler can be withdrawn and replaced. The replacement packs in lots of 10 come with a newer plug which is a slightly different design but works better. The part number for this Marklin-style coupler pack is #6523. Modellbahnshop Lippe has them in stock. They sell them as a single part. It is listed as "Fleischmann 6523 Gauge H0 Exchange coupling with rivet and slot fitting". Image courtesy of Gaugemaster UK. Thanks a lot. Unfortunately it does not work with old Fleischmann cars from the sixities.The couplers cannot be removed at all because they are bolted and soldered to the floor. Possibly to bore the hole and cut the thread, which is possible, but too much trouble. By the way, I have this vintage signal of unknown maker. In case you have not seen my post, another image here. Can it be from English speaking world _ Thanks again/Cheers.

Hi Ivan, In the older Fleischmann cars (from 1950/60) the coupler section is complete in a sheet metal (blech) housing. It is held by the two buffers (zwei puffers), which unscrew (2mm thread). As you say, to remove the coupler you need to drill out the rivet, which maybe a lot of trouble. The car in your photo is a later version made for easy replacement of the coupler. Kimball |
