Good evening everybody, in my goodies box I have found 2 x 7188 and 1 x 7044
I checked them and the 7188 work, although lazily, with the lights working correctly.
I checked the 7044 and it works, although, lazily but the light bulbs are missing.
They are quite old, the grey plastic casings are a bit warped.
I'm also missing the 3 base plates, they might have been stolen in 2017 with all the other train stuff.
I've seen that if I place the bottom of the signal on the tracks the lights work, which is good.
QUESTION, at last:
Is it worth it to strip and clean the electromagnetic system to work a bit more decidedly or these 'ancient' devices were slow originally ?

If you just want the cosmetics of lights, replace the bulbs with LEDs and an external switch/relay (I prefer latching) If you want the slow fade in/out, then you may optionally introduce an arduino (or similar) solution if you want to retain the dead-section aspect, then the switch/relay should be DPDT |

I was thinking of using a 72720 with 7188 and 7044 and the digital braking box for signals of which I can never find the article number

Good morning, I have seen that there is a braking module, 72442, that can be operated with the 7272/72720 conventional control box.
I have three signals so I will need 3 x 72442, not cheap.
Will an m83 decoder work just the same? I plug the signals into the m83 and the m83 to the EcOS this looks simple enough but how do I setup the 3 sections for the braking area ?
Marklin mentions k83 decoders but aren't they the old version of an m83 ?
I recall using a Viessmann decoder on my previous layout but do not remember the article number.
I use C tracks, do I really need the metal base plate to 'earth' the signals or not ?

After further reading I have seen that the probably the best solution is to use an m84, 60842, decoder but why in the item description says that it is good for Hobby color light signals ?
All other signal don't work ? Like my 7188 / 7044 ? Does it come down to the amount of current used by the coils ?

sorry to say that this 'project' hasn't gone anywhere. I have had enough of experimenting and I sold these items on ebay.
