Would you consider buying or have you ordered the loco 39243 and Simplon Orient Express sets 42790 and 42791?

I would but at the moment we're saving for our holiday and I think money is better spend getting about seeing nature at its best., getting onto the Railjet, the Mariazeller Bahn and other interesting places.

Dear QQQ1970, over the weekend I ordered a 39243 and the 42790 set. Does this count toward the poll?

I voted no, too expensive.

The are so many other models that I want that's higher on my list. I also already have 39241 and the 42795+42796. Thinking about value this propably also be worth much on Ebay but considering I rarely sell any of my models that's no reason to me.

Already ordered 39243, (she is such a beutifull loco). She is really expencive, but having missed 39241, I thought it would be a great addition to my collection.

I usually buy one loco per year, so it better be something special this year!!!

The 241A EST is a must for me. I ordered it last friday.
With the coaches I've a problem. I already have the 1920 version, the beige ones, and I'm not fully happy with their quality. I like the 241A with the CIWL coaches and I'm seriously considering to buy the LS Models version.

I ordered the 39243 and both Orient Express coach sets. Although I was fortunate to get the 39241, I missed out on the blue coach sets offered a few years prior. I'm excited that these new coaches will come with a decoder.

Regarding the LS Models coaches, I saw a nice set while window shopping in Geneva in February. Unfortunately the store was closed Crying

Ordered it. I didn’t order the coaches as I already have both brown and blue sets. Although the set with the decoder does interest me.

I'm not interested as its not my era/style of model rail road. If I were into that time era where an Orient Express would be reasonable, I would definitely buy one, as it is a very beautiful train.

Hi Jean,
No doubt a masterpiece of steam locomotive engineering.
I see your point on the cars.....

Regarding the CIWL train, it would be good if Maerklin could model a more appropriate set of cars for the 241.
The current offerings date back to pre-1910, and were I believe originally the Trix Express (or similar) manufacture.
By the time of the 241 (1933) CIWL cars were all steel, in the Y series +.
Mulhouse France museum has some of these, as does the museum in Odense Denmark.
Here is one of those all steel cars modeled by PMP (France) in the 1950s.
They could be modeled by Maerklin....... and it will be far better in tinplate ...... like the PMP.

I didn't vote because there was no category which exactly fit my situation.

Edit: I did end up voting that I would pass due to the high cost. One of my North American dealers now has pricing posted and with shipping the Class 241 and both coach sets would cost me over $1,700 USD, which is almost double what I paid for my 26922 set a few years ago. I could still afford to buy this train but the value seems off these days, what with the rising prices and declining online discounts of the recent past.

I have a 39241 already and although it is an amazing loco another one seems like a bit too much to me. I have to admit that I was quite tempted but I believe that I have this under control for the moment. BigGrin

I also did not order the coaches because I have the brown ones from the 26922 set and these are too similar, including I imagine the unreliable interior lighting.

Now if Märklin would ever model the more modern all steel versions, such as those which Kimball kindly shared with us, I would jump on that set of coaches in a heartbeat. ThumpUp

I have almost all Märklin and mostly HO, although I do have a small number of Z gauge trains!
So many trains and so little time.

I’m tempted because of the digital control. But I think I'll pass, since I have 39241, 42795, 42796 and 26922.

Hi,

Yes Kimball, this is exactly the kind of cars which would suit wonderfully to the EST 241A machine to make an Orient Express Legend. So there is choice alas not from Märklin
Cheers

My exact thoughts Jean.

My 39241 sneaks around the layout stealing coaches from other locos, which he somehow always seems to get away with it. BigGrin

But I will have to let that continue until I can get him the perfect rake of late 1930's Orient Express coaches, whether they are from Märklin or someone else. However buying the same Orient Express coaches which I already have but at an astronomical price and painted blue just won't do it I'm afraid. ThumbDown

Jim

I would be looking to models by LS Models, Rivarossi or other to make up a more realistic looking Orient Express. Some of the LS Models coaches may be sold out, but still appear on eBay and other sites from time to time. I guess that there must be a site somewhere that lists the composition of a typical train of that period and which coaches would go in which order.

Remember that not all items on eBay are for international sale, so sometimes, it pays to have European, German or French addresses available if the items will not ship to wherever you may be.

Something like this:
