I would like to have my trains running in block sections. Each section would be one S88 module.

Can people suggest how this could be done?

The CS3 would have to know whether a block was occupied.

If you just want block operation then it can be achieved quite simply with most signals in an analog manner whether you are running analog or digital locos, or even both.
But if you want to do it digitally with S88 feedback modules (although I think you would need more than one feedback point per block, the S88 can handle 16 inputs I think) and possibly computer control I suggest you start off by reading the appropriate sections on member Dale Schulz's site https://cabin-layout.mixmox.com/

I can be wrong but I believe you need one sensor at the entrance of each block and not two. The sensor would instruct the S88 to shut current off at the entrance point (typically two track length) and turn current on at the entrance of the prior block. When the train leaves the block (and enters the next block) it would activate the next sensor, turning power off on the entrance of this block and turning current on for the two tracks at the prior block. This allows only one train in a block at a time. I use reed switches as sensors and magnets under the last car. I use signals (in open areas) to turn the current on/off and K84/M84 in hidden areas.

Hi Harvey

Thank you for your comments about block working.

The question for me is how do you turn the power on and off relative to sensors and reed switches?

Here is a training video by Märklin, how does somebody install a section or block control by a CS 3 with the S88. Even it is in German, but by the pictures it should help.

In this video you is shown aas you do it with a M84 and a MS 2.
