Hi! I´m presenting some of my painting and weathering techniques for brick wall buildings. The subject is a 6-port roundhouse with matching water tower. The roundhouse is then integrated into a Locomotive yard with turntable and related track works.

Funny that you should post this JUST after I have finished building my own roundhouse over the weekend! Blink

I chose the Vollmer 6-stall kit, and the experience was the total opposite of your Kibri set;
Huge amounts of glue. Not two pieces that fits correctly together, and in the end I ended up sanding the roof-pieces HEAVILY, as there wasnt any way they would fit on top of the construction.
Mind you, though, that the Vollmer construction was designed more than 50 years ago, while your Kibri one is a very modern kit!
(My kit, which I got off Ebay, still had its pieces marked "Made in Western Germany". Glare

The Vollmer one comes slightly pre-weathered for the roof- and chimney parts. Just a crude shade of "dirt", and nothing more. Yous, on the other hand, is now beatifully weathered, and it looks superb!
Eventually I will give mine a black wash and a dry-brush of white highlighting. Nothing fancy.

Again; Congratulations on your excellent BW area!
Best regards

The new kit from Märklin for the new turntable seems to be a bit bigger (maybe 3 cm or so) per stall then the Vollmer, so it will occupy a bit more space in the layout...

In the Märklin book "The Track Plan Book" by Klaus Eckert we can see the Vollmer kit weathered with a similar appearance to the one presented in this thread. About 20
years ago I weathered the Vollmer kit's walls and painted the doors and windows in a much simpler way. the results are not so good overall but the walls look ok anyway.
I painted them with enamel black and brown completely. I let it dry few minutes and after I cleaned it with a paper. The process works for birck walls and is faster then the presented one, but not so good.

Miguel

I gave my roundhouse exterior a black wash since, after decades of steam power, there is nothing white in the vicinity!

Mine are the Märklin 7288 and I think they were actually made by Heljan.
