Help needed to rejuvenate Marklin delta 2960 damplok

Hi, Before I present my problem I would like to introduce myself. I have a modest and ecelctic collection of marklin locos,track and wagons. I stopped collecting due to financial reasons and the realisation that I wasnt doing anything with them. I have recently started building a small layout based on a Marklin starter set oval with some sidings. This is to get the kids involved in the hobby. Getting them to paint,plaster and create scenery for the layout. To add some variety I brought out a delta loco ( 2960, BR38) from storage. I got this second hand from ebay 10 years back and never tested to ran it. I tried to run this loco on my track which has a digital controller . I changed the analog setting on the decoder to run on digital ( it can be seen in the pic). The loco ran herky-kerky for a while. I had a look online and did some troubleshooting. Cleaned the pickup shoes with Isopropyl alocol. Unscrewed the top and tried to get to the motor, but was unable to open the motor housing completely ( not sure what i was doing wrong). Now the loco simply refuses to run. No buzz of electricity passing through it when put on the tracks. The lights dont switch on either. Its looks dead for all reasons. PS: The loco is missing traction tires and hasnt been oiled in a long time. I have got these and plan to apply in next few weeks. I would really appreciate if someone can shed light on whats happened to the loco. kind regards Yogi

Yogi, somehow you have to find a way to take the motor apart and look inside, most probably its the armature which is stuck due to the lack of running the loco on occasions.
look out for any loose wire as this could also be a reason, the loco looks like new so it shouldn't have major problems with it., what is the object on the second last picture underneath the tension spring on the right ? is this just copper shining through ? another test you could do is take the globe out and test it on the track and see if it works, with a multi meter you could test all the wire connections.
you need to realign the front coupler to a vertical position.

Yes, thats the copper shining through.
By "globe" do you mean the motor ?
I will get a multi-meter and see how it goes.
BTW: checked your Youtube channel. Great layout :)

Yogi Hi Yogi, welcome. The globe means the headlamp bulb. An essential tool for you should be a basic digital multimeter to assist troubleshooting. They are cheap as chips for a good one suitable for modeling, from the likes of Jaycar, Super cheap, Repco, Bunnings, maybe even the Red Shed. Cheap being around $20 give or take. Trust me, it will be invaluable. If you are interested there's a Märklin Club in Auckland where you can get some good support and advice. Hi Steve,
I am in Hastings. Left the default as Auckland when signing up :).
Last year there was a nice Marklin club layout from Palmerston North visiting Hastings at the model train show.

You can also gently turn the large wheels with your thumbs and see if the motor is frozen or runs free.

Simply remove the brushes, then apply a few drops of lighter fluid to the mechanism, insisting on the bearing of the rotor itself. Let it sit for a few minutes, then repeat. Then try carefully to turn the wheel but ** only on the geared side** !! Clean up the brushes the same way, dry them up, reinstall, she should be as good as new. ...and BTW welcome to the forum! Well then you're just a stones-throw from our thriving Wellington Club ( www.mmrc.org.nz) If circumstances ever bring you to Wellington near the end of the month, we have a regular monthly meeting last Friday of the month at our Upper Hutt Clubrooms, and the clubrooms are open for casual get-togethers most other Friday evenings and often on Saturdays. Almost a special-interest "Mens-Shed"  Maybe we'll see you sometime. There used to be a semi-active second-hand dealer in your area (Taradale I think), Alan Harris but he's been selling some of his collection on Trademe lately and I think he's stopped any active trading at shows. Hi Elsleuth. yes I tried gently turning but the wheels are locked. Thanks for the tips guys. I will try them out and see how it goes. This is the first time I am opening up a Marklin loco ( or any model loco for that matter!). Will learn a few skills along the way.
