Hello all,

First of all happy new year to everyone!

As I’m new to European trains I have questions which hopefully you can help me out. I have a modern image Marklin C-track carpet layout which I run mostly Marklin locomotives and wagons with the exception of some ESU diesel locomotives which they ran great however I wanted to buy some Roco and Rocky-Rail wagons which are only available on DC.

1. Can I run the DC version of the Roco, Rocky-Rail or even ACME without changing the wheels on a Marklin track?

2. Do I need to change the coupler on the wagons?

3. Are there any other caveats in running DC wagons on a Marklin tracks?

Thanks a lot for your help.

There are AC wheelsets available for many models form those companies.
Most models will run fine on C-Track.

You will have to test whether the Maerklin close coupler works on those models. In many cases, I have put Roco's Universal Coupler on coaches/cars by other brands

It used to be that other manufacturer's models were comparatively lighter than most Maerklin models. That led to situations where those coaches/cars became the weak point in the consist and were prone to derailing. Whenever possible, place the heavier cars at the front of the consist and the lighter ones at the rear to avoid this issue.

If you are considering container cars, be aware that most brands are not fully interchangeable and that even from the same brand, some containers will not fit on other cars.

Regards

Mike C

Thank you Mike for your reply. May I enquire which ROCO part number you are using on your wagons?

Hi

There are 2 things to check
- the internal distance between the wheel flanges: They are slightly narrower on Märklin wheels (by 1 or 2/10 of mm
- the Flange depth and tread width may be much smaller on fine scale which will not work on C Track.
- "Normal" European DC vehicles will work on C Track

Please see also the topic on this forum https://www.marklin-users.net/fo...heel-measurements-tables

Cheers

Jean
