Hi all,

Does anybody know which of the available locomotive sheds by all plastic model manufacturers can be used with C track (3.5 cm space between tracks)? The ones I have checked out are made for the distance between parallel K tracks.

This is the case for most of the station platforms as well.

I think the Vollmer sheds are C-track compatible.

Hi Thanos,

As HueyCE has told you, Vollmer loco sheds are thought for Marklin geometry. I have the electric loco shed 5760, and it fitted OK with my old M tracks. Unfortunately, C tracks are a bit wider, so the shed doesn't fit so well. An easy adaptation is to cut out about 1.5 mm out from each side of the basement of the shed, but I think adding a wooden base below the shed could be better

At first sight, I calculate the wooden base should be about 4-5 mm thick, and of couse you must cut off the two holes for the track 4 cm wide.

When it comes to platforms, Kibri has some for M tracks which are 38 mm wide. You can cut out some of the track ballast to fit it, but perhaps it's better and cheaper to do the whole platform from wood and plasticard, and add spare parts from another platform or acquired separately... sometimes handcraft is the only solution and it can be very relaxing, too

Hope to have helped you a bit.

Hi Julio, all:

I think that model companies have fallen behind adaptation to C Track and it is frustrating to see all those nice models not available for C Track. I had also problems finding a platform that would fit between C tracks - thanks to Kibri I have found one.

Anyway I have thought about it and I conluded that for the locomotive shed the only solution (besides your recommendations) is to use the 24922 adapter track and some K tracks.

Hi Thanos,all,
I always wondered,......most platforms in real life are rarely straight,....why aren't there any models of curved paltforms
I ran into theis problem on my layout, the tracks thru the station are slightly curved,so I built the platform myself,Faller,Kibri,Vollmer,Pola didn't get my money.
I would use the same type of approach for C-track,kitbash,scratchbuild it yourself,.......yes?

I guess you are right again Kevin! Model building should have some DIY challenges! It's ok to buy everything ready to assemble but the real thing is doing it yourself!

Hi all
There is a simple solution to build platform with any spacing :
Brawa has in its catalog a kit containing the lateral walls for
German platforms ; if you use them in conjunction with styrene
sheets you can obtain every size of platform.

Hi all,
Thanks for the tip Marco, I´m looking for platforms that will set between c-track, and I´ve fond one from Faller and the ones from Kibri, but I must confess that I don´t like their look at all.
Best regards,

An update concerning the locomotive shed I was looking for!

After a lot of consideration I have chosen the Marklin 7289 locomotive shed! It is C track compatible (both height and distance between tracks) and it is certainly good looking.

It is easy to assemble but it requires a good painting (which is fun for me) as it looks very "plastic" if you leave it as it is. I even used the metal cote paint by Humbrol for some parts (like the ladder) and the result is certainly beautiful.

Some extra remarks! You can slide the doors up and down if you wish and Marklin has created a very nice mechanism for that! Also, the kit is catenary compatible. They provide two bars that can be installed inside the kit with wires and everything that is needed for catenary operation.

For my kit I used some extra lighting features. On top of the entrance doors I have installed two Viessmann 6089 Industrial Lamps and inside there are a couple of Faller light bulbs.

Hi Thanos,all,
Don't mind me I am just nit-picker

Make sure your ringlokschuppen is dirty!Weather it heavily!
Next the doors, while it is a cool feature,*real* RH's did not have this. Also the catenary usually stopped at the entrance,....you don't want 10,000 volt wires inside!Since someone had to work on top of the lok!

When your done my friend,photos,...please?

Your suggestions are always welcome...

I was thinking about weathering it this weekend and I wasn't sure how much... However, as you suggest it should be really dirty all around!

I am going to stop catenary at the entrance and put one of those catenary signs that suggest "end of catenary"!

I am going to buy a digital camera soon so it won't be a problem.

I haven't bought my digital camera yet, however, a friend brought his so I got the following pictures of my loco shed...

Faller 120165 two loco shed is compatible with C-track. I have it on my layout, it is rather good looking and works alright. The doors swing both ways, so they open automatically when you drive the loco through them in either direction, and close when the loco is through. Not the most prototypical arrangement but working.

This picture is from a web-site of a Finnish on-line shop (I hope I am not violating any copyright rules by posting a link to it here, webmaster can remove it, if it is some sort of an infringement).
