Hello everyone, I was looking at this green SK 800 for sale on eBay. Was wondering if you might be able to help me determine which version it is? It has been refurbished/restored and the seller says she runs well. There just isn’t a lot of information in the description and the photos are a little Dark.

Here is the link:

Hi,

Well I am glad the seller knows it's repainted but they are quite off on the dating. Closed brush cover area and many other features indicate it's an SK 800 N which first rolled out in the 1947/48 time period. I don't focus much on locos past 1950 but this one could easily be an early 1950s loco even.

For reference here's one in my gallery:

https://marketplace.mark...comotive-1939-or-194143/

Another interesting topic is whether Marklin produced the green color scheme on the locos past 1945/46. Especially versions of the loco with cast handrails as opposed to the metal rail handrails. The answer is mostly "no" aside from a few very rare custom paints from the factory. Many fakes or reproductions use these later versions because they are less expensive and easier to find and then they paint them green.

All the best,

Paul

Thank you Paul, I figured you would have the answers. Glare BigGrin That sure seems like a lot of 💰, for a late model SK 800. Especially since the lighting in the photos is dark and makes it difficult for me to be able to see the condition.

I agree with Paul but feel it's a late model 1950's. Due to the repaint I would think $200 and max $300. It would be a great project to paint whatever colour scheme you want or restore to black as it will not affect the value. He is seriously wishful thinking on his current price.
