Hi, I've just received a G 800 BR 44 loco for repairs from Melbourne., the loco is extremely heavy, the extra weight comes from a metal insert which fits into the boiler, its 284g on its own, the loco without tender weighs over 800g. it has a rod at the back of the tender to manually reverse direction of the loco, 2 rubber tyres, no smoke unit as the metal insert covers the chimney breast. the tender had real coal unfortunately there has been an early infection of zinc pest which I've removed without damaging the tender. it will be replaced with new coal and this will give the loco another life circle. part from a few shaved off teeth on the cogwheels the loco runs well. it was produced in 1950-1953, the running number is 44066 in front of the boiler, on one side of the cab there is a Märklin inscription, underneath G 800, besides a Märklin signet on on the other side Germany, underneath G 800 and besides 20V, the tender has a number 809 on the back. Hi River6109 This is a beautifull loco. My G800 dates 1950 with spoon contacts, no traction tires, metal tender and inverter in the tender. Its original box came as pictured here in "Rautenkarton" with wooden box. Here it is after painting Cheers Jean |

Jean Sure does look nice. Many years ago I acquired an original G800 box, wooden insert, cardboard lid. I've kept my eyes open for a reasonable G800 ever since without any luck. And I just know that as soon as I was to part with the box, the Loco would turn up!! Murphy's Law on that one. So in the meantime I hang on to it, although I would consider a swap/trade for an original box for either my Blue ST 800 set or HR 800. We live in hope |

Hi Cookee
Sad to hear this.
My loco has a nice story: my loving wife went very early on a flea market in our home town near Paris and bumped into a treasury. This was a large carton box full of 10 kg of Märklin stuff of 1950- 1951 and including a G800, a DL 800, a Friedrichshafen railway station (418), two turntables 410 NG, loads of 3 rail tracks 3600, level crossing (459MG), signals 445A and 437N and more like 3600DKWS (the old double crossing switch of 1948).
For me it was a mix of Chritsmas marvel and a super-duper lotto win. Cheers
