Hi,

Does anyone know where I can buy the tiny 1-pin connectors used for coach lighting? And the microscopic heatshrink sleeves?

Thanks

While we are asking- perhaps 2 pin male/female versions as well in case both ground and hot wiring need to carry from car to car? BigGrin I haven't had much luck finding a small and suitable solution here in the US. I'm sure the electronics houses carry something, but it is near impossible to decipher online.

Someone once suggested to recycle ESU connectors (meant for decoders). E.g., ESU article 51950, an 8-pole female jack, could be sliced into 8 individual single pole female jacks. For the male counterpart, one needed to cut an 8-pole male jack from a decoder set. I didn´t have the heart to do that, but one day I might. My local MRR dealer has heatshrink sleeves in his portfolio. So, maybe this is also the case in your country?

GOOGLE What you want and heat shrink sources will come up by the dozen. Amazon I expect will have a source.
Take care I like Marklin and will defend the worlds greatest model rail manufacturer.

I would be tempted to use somehting like these JST 2mm spacing connectors normally used to connect leads to circuit boards (circuit board connector linked), but the mating half tend to have crimped pins and require assembly into the connector after being crimped onto the wire.

The other option, especially for single pins is to use individual pins from the ubiquitous D-Sub connectors. These can be purchased as individual pins with either crimp or solder bucket connections. The crimp version can be soldered to. Once sorted then use some 1/16" heat shrink over the pin leaving just the mating surface of the pin exposed, and on the socket half bring the heat shrink right up to the end. There a whole range of sizes smaller than 1/16" (1.6mm) at Farnell/Onecall/element14 (whatever name they are currently using in your area). I have linked to the selection page here in the UK, but you should be able to find similar at your favourite electronic parts store.

Where more than one pin is required you can use different colours to identify them, or with just two pins have a pin and socket on each side.

Amazon has lots of assorted size kits - haven't found any with just the smallest sized ones though.

I have one of those kits and I use the smallest ones in my locos all the time. They cost almost nothing though and someday I will find a use for the larger ones too. Cool

Are you looking for something like this: https://www.amazon.com/U...4&keywords=ic+socket

Here you can just use a blade to cut off one pin at a time. Use 4mm diameter heat shrink (I think for the 2.54mm pitch spacing/size heatshrink to sheild the soldered on wire sides, and then connect the two (one male one female) ends.

Hi,

Not sure, 2.54mm sounds like more than the ones I'm looking for. 1mm is more like it.

Thanks

2.54mm is the spacing from pin to pin in a row, not the size of the pin. Its a standard pin diameter (I forget the thickness)

Looking up the standards, the pitch is based on 1/1000ths of an inch, and the pin thickness is standardized:

Pin Spacing Post Size
.100" (2.54mm) .025"² (0.64mm²)

So if the post is 0.64mm^2, that would be a diameter of 0.9mm

Yes I know - but 2.54mm is still way too big, it would make the pins around 1mm when they should be more like 1/4 mm.

Then get a 0.039" (1mm) header, and appropriately smaller heatshrink

Hi,

I bought some micro mini in line connectors from ledbaron who sells on the German ebay. Just look for the RM 1.0 connectors.
I used them to connect the lighting in the old metal coaches , using just one pick-up for the consist.
I found them really great, and it easy easy to connect/disconnect . They are actually 2 pin connectors but I just paralleled the conductors up.

cheers
Bob.

Nice. That opens up a lot of interesting possibilities for lighting upgrades both in locos and in coaches.

sol expert cable set 2 poles

and very small connectors:
Connector 2 poles

These are what I use.

They can be used as a single, double or multiple pin connector - you just cut off what you need with a sharp knife.

The same connector can act as a male or female connector (sorry, they haven't invented a gender diverse connector yet......)
