Dear All

I have an intellibox model number 650 with version 2.0 of the software that keeps resetting itself at any given time. This causes issues when running my marklin trains automatically with windigipet ver 2018.
Has any one else seen this issue or is it a case of sending it to Uhlenbrock for repair.

Many thanks

Andy

Hi Andy,

1: when you say 'resetting itself', what specifically do you mean?, ie does it do a complete restart like if you press the Stop & Go together (pr power off/on)? - display goes blank, and then goes through normal power-on initialisation? (if you can take a short video showing what it does that would be great)

2: Does it only do it when actually powering trains, or if you were to just leave it sitting there does it still 'reset'?

3: If it does it even when no trains are being powered, what about if you disconnect the Red/Brown lead to the layout so that all you have is power in to the IB?

4: And what is the power source you are using?

These answers may help isolate the cause.

It's only hearsay, but the Intellibox is well-known for its phantom resets when using PC control.
I don't have reset problems with mine, but I have nothing connected to the serial port.

Sending the IB to Uhlenbrock for "repair" probably won't do any good. Better send them an e-mail asking if there is a cure for the issue before sending the box.

Tom

Since I have controlled my Intellibox via serial port from multiple PCs for all its life (ca 1997?) I do not believe there is any systemic problem with PC control causing system resets, certainly not using version 1.203 anyway.

Some software may cause system resets.

Yes, we have seen such reports over the years, but we have also seen a lot of crazy stuff reported, so I would not say it is a well known issue.

I would start by checking how power is supplied, and if that is getting overloaded.
Next see if the IB is overheating perhaps... if the heat sink is very hot run a fan on it.

The problem is well known here. There is no solution given by Uhlenbrock. No chance to get rid of it. The best is to use TAMS MC or Redbox. You will never have fun running trains via WDP and IB.
Best regards
