[answered][Urgent]: Help needed on 3301's (Delta) compatibility with Marklin Digital

Team, there is a friend of mine offering 3301. The package box carries the text "with universal electronic circuit for use in the DELTA and Digital systems". Does this mean can I control the speed, smoke and lights using MS2? Or do I have to retrofit a digital decoder? Any quick feedback is appreciated. Ah from these threads Question about Delta Delta to DigitalI see that a delta engine can be controlled using MS2. Atleast the speed and direction. So my assumptions is a valid one i believe.

Hi Madhu,
I can confirm that the loco has a decoder which works with a MS2. It is a dip-switch type. To run digital an address must be set first. Unlike other decoders it does not recognise the system automatically.
Regards
Markus

I run many Delta locos on my MS2. Speed and direction are of course fully supported, but on most Delta locos lights operate as in analogue models, i.e. the lights come on when the loco starts moving and they get brighter with the speed of the loco. On those locos with lights at both ends they may be directionally controlled. Smoke on Delta locos is also as in analogue locos, and comes on when the loco is moving. |

I recently experienced driving an old delta loco with MS2, (decoder with dip switches) and I discover for the first time the well known "flickering lights" phenomenon with digital drive. Well, nothing better than in analog drive, except the fact that more locos can be on the tracks. Best Regards Joël |

However, if you have a digital layout, Delta locos can be used without modification with reduced performance, or as an interim arrangement before they are upgraded with a better decoder. I have many Delta locos in my collection, and I'm slowly upgrading them as I can afford to buy new decoders and motor kits. Sometimes it's worth looking for Delta locos on eBay because they can be much cheaper than the Digital equivalents. You can also find that certain locos in the past were only available in Delta form. |
