Hello people,

Today i have faced difficulties with a project that i have in hands. It is about converting an old 83320 from Marklin to digital.

For that i have used an M60941 motor kit from Marklin and, decoder Loksound MFX E64400 from ESU. I have followed the instructions as best as I can, but now the decoder doesn´t give any sign of life in my preliminary tests, not even a short-circuit. The CS2 also don´t "See" the loco (i believe it is automatic like an mfx decoder) and I don't know if any of the soldering that i have done is wrong. Can you please see in the following photos, if there is anything out of logic:

Note that i have not yet connected the lights.

I would appreciate some help please.

Best regards!

Miguel

Okay.. The black wire should be on the tab held in place by the motor screw.. (Not the brown wire that I can see in the image)

Red goes to the slider...

Orange to the right side of the motor..

Grey to the left side of the motor..

White to the front light
Yellow to the rear light
Blue takes the wires from the other side of the lights (common ground)

The two brown wires go to the speaker...

The English manual is here ---> =82889eeec126d11fcc27bd68c94d5a3b]http://www.esu.eu/en/downloads/instruction-manuals/digital-decoders/?no_cache=1&tx_esudownloads_pi1[downloadItem]=82889eeec126d11fcc27bd68c94d5a3b

how did you solder the ground wires ? I've noticed 1 from the motor block, the other from a soldering tab near the 8 pole plug, so I assume 2 wires from the loco and one 1 wire from the 8 pole wire harness, is this correct ? I'm not familiar with the CS 2 and I couldn't tell you if its automatic.

If I understand the programming procedure right, you must register the loco, when the loco is manual registered go to the menu and select DCC and from there you can program all functions.
It is sometimes confusing when you use a protocol which is originally only designed for the Märklin system and it gets a bit complicated trying to configure your ESU M4 decoder, although its capable of doing so, the MFX protocol isn't an NRMA inclusion (apparently they forgot to include it) ESU I think made the best of it to get around it but apparently its not a straight forward programming method.

I also would adjust your spring load arm on the right hand side, move it upwards so the spring is sitting within the 90° angle at the end. in this current position it would add extra pressure to the brush and would slow down the running characteristics.

Hello!

Thank you both for the replies and help!. In fact, in all my "newbieness" i have not soldered wires correctly. Namely the wire for the common ground.

After that and a last check, and with the leds already in place, i placed the loco on the track and the loco registered itself without a hitch. All functions work and the lights are synchronous with the travel direction.

This was a learning experience for future conversions!

Thank you once again!

Miguel
