Thanx John vr for arranging a Cape Marklin Meet! What a great way to spend a rainy Cape Afternoon!
Six Marklin guys gathered at Johns place today to discuss all things Marklin, test run some newly digitized locos, and generally admire some wonderful locos...
Thanx John, Terry, Jacques, Julian and Michael! Always so good to hear how the other Marklin fellows are getting along with their trains and layouts-A Great Day🚂🚂

Wow,is it really raining in Kaapstad (AKA Cape Town) ?!

That means you locals can have a shower at last, right?

(P.S. My wife and i were in Cape Town in January 2017 and enjoyed every minute of it!).

Cheers,

Paul.

Joe,

Sometimes we have so much surplus rain overhere that i can imagine a fleet of seagoing tankers bringing it to Cape Town would help both parties,if your government would pay the bill,of course.

When water is lacking, you could still drink imported beer i guess....

Joe,

Thanks for coming over and enjoying the afternoon with the other guys.

Jacques brought his Amtrak ICE Train to run on the layout. We found out that the Amtrak ICE has current-conducting couplers between wagons all the way from the front to the back of the train, and in the event that one of the couplers is not conducting current properly, then the whole consist will not run. It ran well with the front and back units and BORD wagon in the centre, all illuminated.

We also chatted to Jacques about commencing down the road of digital conversions, and getting a mobile station, or a starter set. He has been collecting Marklin for a long time, but he has kept his trains in original analog condition. It is quite a decision to make !

Peter,

In this case the name Vloedsstraat is appropriate.

Vloed means Flood or Rising Tide.

Stormvloed has a far less positive meaning,it means Springtide and means trouble in paradise,it usually occurs with the combination of hightide and strong westerly winds over the Northsea, last time was in February 1953.

Cheers,

Paul.

Thanks,John, much appreciated, next time will certainly come, must say we found Camps Bay a nice potential place to stay, was surprised to see so many expensive cars driving in front of the restaurants, sipping our wine and watching.
Seepunt (AKA Seapoint) is also a candidate.

Interesting how much the South African Afrikaander language is still similar to the modern Dutch language, after 350 years.
I would translate your sentence as follows:

"De volgende keer als u Kaapstad bezoekt neem dan kontakt op voor een bezoek aan mij (mijn huis) en aan Joe (het huis van Joe)".

And of course we took the boattrip to Robben Island, and returned silent.

Thanks once again.
